Identifying Local Opportunities Week 3

1.)Path to curb domestic violence homicides scrutinized as many skip court-ordered counseling

This story goes on to talk about the lack of involvement and awareness towards enforcing villains to attend intervention courses where they can come to an understanding of their actions in the past( usually known to have an domestic violence background).
The story points out that overtime judges and police force tend to not pay attention to the criminals in which need to attend these classes and ultimately this leads to terrible acts of violence.
The judicial system has the problem with not properly maintaing a better system that improves the compliance and use of these intervention type programs for violent offenders.

2.) Clay commission looks for new revenue to pay for improvement projects

Clay county in the simplest terms is trying to raise the sales tax to be able to afford improvements on such things as schools and animal shelters.
The problem faced is that the new idea for a one cent increase causes a mix of emotions toward voters and the citizens living in the district. The people dealing with this problem are the citizens who are affected with the increase. There is also the agresti plan which looks at other sources of bringing in revenue that requires fees to build the infrastructure in the community.

3.) Winn-Dixie lowering prices in search of an upside

Winn Dixie is cutting prices in order to make up for the lack of business due to increasingly high competition from publix or healthier chains, such as, Fresh Market or Whole Foods.
The problem this causes is that winn dixie makes fellow competitors lower prices in order to one up, but eventually this just hurts the entire food industry. Winn Dixie has the problem because now they pay more for products and then ultimately discount the food, which causes a loss in revenue.

Even though you did not hit your 5 local opportunities it was a good effort on your part. The article about Winn Dixie is interesting but I think it is kinda silly to try to compete with Whole Foods and Fresh Market. Perception is everything and sometimes, you need to raise your prices and produce a better quality product for gain that clientele. However, if they were to try to compete with Walmart, I would say that lowering prices would make sense, it is apples to apples but a high end grocery store competition, requires more effort on their part.

  2. Patrick,

I found your post is really interesting. Winn-Dixie used to be my to-go store so lowering prices makes me really excited! I don't know how it would help the store financially though. It can be a major risk. Even though you did not find your 5 local opportunities, I appreciate the fact that your post is different compared to others!
